Installing the Optional Taller Windscreen on a Forza 300

After reading some forum posts and also from personal experience, I decided to buy the optional taller windscreen for my Forza (Honda part number 08R70-K04-900).  The entire process takes about 30 minutes.  Here are some before and after photos.

Removing the Old Windscreen
1. Remove the three screws in the photo below.

2. Pull out the red plastic piece.  There are two clips still holding it in place.  Starting from the bottom use your fingers to pull it both out and down towards the front tire at the same time.  You need to work your fingers from the bottom towards the middle of the piece, applying steady pressure along the way.

3. Remove the four screws holding the old windshield in place.  Then remove the windshield.
Windshield Step 2

Installing the New Windscreen
The new windscreen comes with eight rubber washers. I assume these are for eliminating or reducing vibration.  There are four predrilled holes in the windscreen.  Using the screws from the old windscreen, add a washer to a screw, insert it through the hole in the windscreen, and then add another washer to the other side.

Align the new windscreen with the four holes on the bike and then start screwing it in.

Snap the red piece back in place and then screw it back in with the three screws used in step 1.

Here are some more before and after photos.

1. In step 1, I see the bottom screw is easily reached. How about the top 2 screws, are they accessible through the opening of the screen?

• Thanks for posting the guidance..Just bought a new Forza here in Scotland and your info. will help as I will fit a higher screen from PUIG…One thing however…wonder if you know how to remove the cover plate to allow a top box to be fitted?…I cannot see how to do that but it must be simple?…don’t want to force or scratch anything…

• Hi Derek. I had my top box installed by the dealer, so I’m not sure how you would remove the cover plate.

• Just a note to thank you again.fitted a newPuig high smoke coloured screen to my Forza today and your post was invaluable..do not think I would have had the courage to “force” the cover piece off…so thanks
Also fitted new GIVI topbox as well..that took slightly longer.
Derekg

2. Isanozz,

The second image looks like the whole screen is tinted a dark color. It looks great!

Did you do something to the screen?

• I had a choice of clear or smoked & wanted the smoked one. Will post some more pics if you like when I get back from a 3 day ride I’m on now.

• More pics always welcome.

Also…….keep us posted with ride impressions.

3. Just got back from another long trip on mine. Last week 1002km over 4 days, this trip was 768km over 3 days. In less than 3 months have clocked up over 5000km already. So my ride impressions are just pack up the bike & get going. It’s such a great bike to travel on, Haven’t had a single issue or problem with it the whole time & I just want to keep on going. The last 2 trips have been with some friends on their pcx & it’s been very slow going with them. I have a very difficult time going slow enough to stay with them, especially on any hills.
Please let me know if there is something specific you want to know about & i’ll do my best to answer.
Have a look here for more of the screen…
http://www.forzaclubthailand.com/forums/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3192&extra=page%3D1

And a few pics from these last 2 rides(sorry not sure how to post the pics here so they just show up)…

4. Does the taller screen create a comfortable air pocket? Does wind still hit your helmet but not your torso? I’ve read in multiplt placed that the Burgman 400 stock screen is not good, too much buffeting on helmet. Whether I buy a Burg or Forza I may replace the screen. Thanks.

• I bought a taller windscreen when I bought the Forza, but had to wait about a week for it to come in. That allowed me to ride with the stock screen for about a week. The taller one makes a difference in the torso area. I still feel the wind in the helmet area, but the ride is noticeably more comfortable with the taller screen. The stock screen is not much of a screen.

• I lasted only a few days with the stock screen before ordering the bigger one. Anything over about 70km/h & the wind started to smash me. Mostly here I’m going flat out 130/140km/h and the wind hit me so hard I was actually feeling sick in the gut from it and had such a sore neck from the helmet being knocked around.
This one I have really doesn’t knock the helmet around hardly at all, but I’m also not the tallest of guys too so maybe someone taller it would more than it does me. And yes there is an air pocket or vortex it creates. If I ride just in t shirt I have to tuck it in my pants or it ends up around my chest. Another cool advantage is if I have my pack on the back & it rains, the water tends to fly right over it & the inside of my legs, chest & pack don’t really get wet unless I stop.

• On my just bought Majesty, it came with the upgraded larger windscreen! And it works great at wind/bug protection. No buffeting. And I can see over the top of it.

5. If you want to keep your windscreen looking new, I just posted about a new product I tried and it works pretty well. Hope it helps. What do you use to clean yours? Something besides Windex? Thanks!

• I have a new 2013 Honda Forza 300 and I get the handle bars shake and vibrate at 60-70ks
I took it back to Honda complained they placed a new tyre on the front, I still get the vibration and shake on the handle bars at 60-70ks then goes away.
Honda said this is normal as it’s light weight in the front. I’m not sure if anyone else is having the Same issues.
It’s around 60-70ks my handle bars shake vibrate a little.

• I haven’t noticed any vibration on my handlebars. I think someone had said that there were some with a faulty rear tire causing a vibration, but that Honda had these replaced. You might want to contact Honda support on their website and ask if they know anything about this:
http://powersports.honda.com/support.aspx

6. Hey guys, did or does anyone get a vibration at about 65 to 68 mph on the forza…I just got mine 3 days ago and still breaking it in… I’m getting the vibration and I am told at other forums this is normal….not diggin it at all

• Sounds like your lovin the forza…well i hope i get there…still missin my pcx..

• Our Forza doesn’t exhibit any unusual vibrations at speeds up to 65mph (105 kph) Hope you can get that issue fixed.

• My vibration doesnt kick in until 66 mph. It continues and tapers off at 75. Honda corp has ok’d the work. So 5hey must be aware of an issue.

7. I just bought the tall Honda windscreen and have attempted to remove the “V” shaped red front cowl piece. I can’t for the life of me get that off trying to duplicate your instructions. The front of the V won’t budge and I am afraid to apply too much pressure. I think it is caught where it goes around the headlights, but am not sure how to free everything up so it will slip off. Any further thoughts?

• I have to admit that I had similar concerns when I first attempted to do it. It got to the point where I was afraid I was going to break it. Luckily my Honda dealer is about three miles away, so I rode it over there and had them look at it. There were four of them standing around trying to get it off. They looked at the service manual and eventually just pried it off with enough force. Afterward they put some grease on the little pegs that go into the holes so that it would be easier to remove next time. When I got home I was able to get it off much easier so I could take the photos you saw. If you have a dealer nearby, try bringing it over or asking them over the phone. If that’s not possible, try applying more pressure until it comes off. Get as close to the pegs as possible by referring to their positions in the photo.

• Yeah, I was afraid there was no trick more than just forcing it more than I think it should. Hopefully I won’t break anything. Thanks.

8. I had the same problem and the suggestion to lubricate the pegs should be followed. I used silicone grease and I expect the silicone spray would work also. I’d stay away from using chassis grease or vaseline.

9. I’ve removed the 3 screws and began at the bottom (the underneath, middle screw). It won’t budge. I can’t apply much force because I can’t move it enough the get behind it to apply the force. Dealer want’s $112 to install and said the entire front must be removed and take 1 1/2 hours. That may be incorrect, but any suggesting how or where to apply the force? At the bottom of the V?

• Your dealer is either dishonest or incompetent. This job takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. I will try to find some time to take a video of the entire process.

• roman, it goes without saying the dealers are incompetent!! haha. Without a doubt, the last thing I would do is bring my forza to the dealer to do ANYTHING. At least do not take it to Roseville Honda. A service manual is essential if your going to do any work on these. Inside, it has great illustrations on the windscreen removal. I paid $45.00 for mine and glad i did.

• It’s really easy & you won’t break it.
Pop the top parts where it almost V’s near the top & just pull it down & towards you.

10. I agree–the service manual is a must for DIY. I found only one place selling the service manual ($30) so I ordered it…supposedly comes in 3-5 days. We’ll see if that helps. And I’m a video guy so I’ll shoot the process to help others.

11. Happily I successfully installed the windshield. I’ll provide some photos and videos soon. The “trick” (if there is one) is after removing the bottom screw, if the part won’t budge or pull out free (mine would not) it turns out that the black part beneath it (where the screw comes out) can be pulled down easily about an inch or two, revealing the releasing the red V. After that, pull/push the V down and the clips will release.

For me (didn’t know the trick) I started at the top and bent the V until to top tab we free, (a little scarey but no damage) then pushed it down to release the clips and noticed to my surprise the bottom had finally released. That’s the part I could not move. And I noticed the black plastic part below it had moved down. So my advice: just remove the 3 screws, pull out the bottom and if it won’t move, pull the black plastic part beneath it down and you’ll be able to see the red tab on the V part and pull it out. Then it’s easy to pull down and release the clips.

As for the results. I was surprised the tall windshield still allowed a lot of wind against my face/helmet, but it is better. Not sure how a rider can survive the wind at 70 mph but I’m a fairly new rider and wearing a 1/2 helmet rather than full face helmet.

12. Thanks for the help. It was very intimidating. But I was able to get it done. It helped knowing that I could pull down the black plastic under the bottom screw an inch or 2. Once that was pulled down the bottom of the V popped up. I could then work a screw driver up under the V to near where the latches were shown in your photos. I then pried each latch free with the screw driver as my wife pulled the V down towards the front tire.

I don’t understand why the Forza isn’t selling better. I bought mine Jan. 2 and it was the first one that shop had sold. I was thinking of something bigger at first. But I’ve found the Forza is definitely big enough with plenty of power and so easy to adjust to.

• The forza has issues. Produced mostly in thailand and shipped here. Read other forums about vibration in the rear. I have had my forza into the dealer a lot. There is a motor mount issue or a clutch issue. They still trying to figure it out

• I hope your forza is the exception. I haven’t had any problems in the first 200 miles. The ride has been quite smooth. I haven’t pushed it above 65 mph yet. I hope your dealer can figure out the problem with your bike.

• I have not had any problems at all since I bought it in August. Very happy overall and no regrets.

• We’ve had our Forza since August. Absolutely no problems. Honda quality no matter where it is assembled.

• Not really. Honda recalled many nss 250s manufactured in thailand. Its on the forza forums in thailand.

• The rear wheel issue seems to have been addressed. Owners of affected models have been notified, and the one I just bought has had its rear wheel changed by the dealer before I got it (according to a work note left in the trunk). 1000 km so far and no sign of vibration.

13. I’m from Sydney Australia, have had my Forza for 2 months now. Can you tell me if the tall screen on yours is an original accessory from Honda? it appears to be of higher quality than the one Madmax Bangkok sells, theirs doesn’t have the partial lower tint. Can you tell me where I can purchase the same one as yours and how much? Thanks

• Hi Ben. Yes the tall screen I bought is a genuine Honda part. Part number 08R70-K04-900. It lists for $139 US dollars. I paid 15% less at the dealer. I bought it at the same time I bought the Forza, but had to wait a few days for it to arrive. Here is a link to the Honda Web site. Click the Accessories link when you get to the page and it will take you to the windscreen.

• Hi Ben, I also looked at MadMax and although cheaper, even after the shipping cost were included, it looked a bid flimsy and they only accept bank transfers which implies a minimum of $500 bucks per transfer, so I decided to bite the bullet and get an authentic one from Honda. I made the order in Jan 2014 and just got mine from Hawkesbury Honda NSW Australia, picked it up today. They are made in Italy and are of pretty good quality. I believe they still have a couple left in the warehouse in Melbourne. You may want to contact them on (02) 4577 6500. I paid AUD$179. You can ask for Simon or Tom, they are very helpful and should be able to assist you with this item
I also installed mine today and it makes a huge difference. I am 5 feet 11 inches (179cm) tall and the wind goes over my head, which gives you a much more comfortable ride at highway speeds.
For future reference here is another great website for Forza 300 parts, that I used in the past: “http://japan.webike.net/HONDA/FORZA-Si+(MF12)/6490/mtop/”

Good Luck.

14. Thanks for the windshield information. Do you know if they are available in Thailand. I have seen a few “variations” of a larger wind screen here, but they do not look nearly as contoured to the bike as you. The best I have seen are large bulky screens that mount the the handle bars.

15. thanks mate! just installed my Givi screen which I preferred to Honda’s version since it has an extended bottom-end to provide protection for the hands.

16. Thanks for the hints on the taller windshield installation. Just got my Forza yesterday and now waiting for the taller windshield to come in. Thought I’d go out and do a “trial” removal of the red plastic “Y” piece…and glad I did! For such an easily described procedure it sure can be a pain-in-the-rear to actually do it! The problem on mine was the bottom screw connection…the screw came out easily (all 3 did) but the red “Y” still stuck to that black plastic piece under it and wouldn’t come lose! I eventually sprayed some silicone lube up in that junction and started yanking down the black plastic piece. Finally it snapped free and after that getting the red “Y” out was fairly easy…pull out and down at bottom while pushing down near the top of the “Y”. Greased the ywo clips before reassembly and sprayed more silicone around the bottom junction between black plastic piece and red “Y”. It would be nice if Honda used simple, obvious screws to hold all the panels on instad of hidden tabs and those plastic push rivet “thingy’s”!

• Just installed the taller windshield. I’m 5’8″ tall, 31″ inseam, and can easily see over the windshield. Hopefully it will allow riding with my helmet faceshield in the open position…at least when warme temps get here.

• I am 5′ 2″ and the taller windscreen almost has a bifocal effect for me – the top edge is right in my line of vision. If the windscreen was an inch shorter, I could see over it; if it were an inch taller I could look through it. Does anyone know if there is any way to slightly modify the height?

• The taller windscreen can be cut down, but it might be bit tricky to do it. You might want to look around your area and see if there’s a business that’s experienced in cutting Lexan. If I were going to cut my windshield I think I’d try using a Dremel Tool with a cut-off wheel. Then after cutting it I’d use some sandpaper or emory cloth to smooth and round the edges off.

No easy way to make it taller. You could ad a Lamina Lip (http://laminarlip.com/forza.php) to your screen, which is adjustable for height so can ad an inch or two to the height, but you’ll still have to look “thru” the upper edge of the stock taller screen.

I ordered a Laminar Lip for my Forza. Expect it to arrive tomorrow. Will try to post something on how well it works, or doesn’t work.

• According to their specs, the Puig windshield is a couple of inches taller than the taller Honda windshield. Maybe it would be better looking through the windshield than right at the top edge of it. But I couldn’t find it anywhere in the USA to get it. I did email them about it and they replied that they would be getting it around the end of June, and said they would notify me when they get it. If I get any notification about it, I will post it here. I ended up getting the taller Honda windshield, I’m 5’11” and think I would probably be looking right at the top edge of the Puig screen so I’m sticking with the Honda windshield.

17. I got the taller Givi screen installed by my dealer (although I was expecting the original Honda one!). The taller Givi screen offers much better wind protection that the smaller original screen but I am not impressed with the vibration and noise you get at low speeds (less than 40-45mph), as it seems to flex a bit with the vibrations, driving or even stopped. At higher speeds it is not noticeable though.

Does the original taller Honda windscreen suffer from the same issue? Grateful for your comments.

18. Thanks! I actually went to the dealer because the Givi they installed had a scratch from manufacturing and agreed to replace. Comparing both screens Givi is a bit larger than the larger Honda screen, plus it has handle bar wind protection, so that can cause some flexing.
I am going to install the original Honda which must be a better design.

• I had some squeaking noise from plastic on plastic with mine so ran a rubber strip around it & it looks good & stopped the noise.

19. Hey there. Great info on windshield installation for Forza.
I notice that there is quite a loud “roar” in my helmet when riding at 60+km/hr. Anyone else get this? I don’t remember if there was that much noise with the smaller windshield. I may swap it back in to check. Its loud enough to be a game changer for me. Or earplugs maybe.

20. I just came across this Puig windscreen and really like it, but can’t seem to find it in the USA.
http://www.puigusa.com/tuning-bikes/updates/honda-ns-s300-forza-2013/v-tech-line-touring/c172en/f201-r310-m3620/
I ordered the taller windshield from Honda but they said they won’t be able to get it until around
June 4th. If I could find somewhere to find the puig windshield I would cancel my order for the one from Honda, but not having much luck.

• I’ve got the windshield on order from Honda, but received the following reply from Puig regarding the windshield I posted about above, in case anyone else is interested in this.

Hello Wayne:
We will bring it in by the end of June in light smoke (part# 6554H). We will contact you as soon as it is available.

• I installed the Honda tall windshield and it raised the height of the helmet buffeting but not much and it was still pretty much there–even at 30-35 MPH and I’m not tall at 5’8″.
Looking carefully at the pictures listed on the puigusa.com page (link above) it looks a bit taller and wider. That would certainly be tempting if the goal is to try to get rid of more wind and buffeting. I’m inexperienced so that may explain. However, I’d certainly try the puigusa if I could. Hopefully someone will be able to do a more side by side comparison.

• denpick….you might look into putting a Laminar Lip onto the tall Honda windshield…they make one specifically for the Forza tall windshield http://laminarlip.com/forza.php
I’ve put them on a couple motorcycles in the past and got good results….significant reduction in buffeting. It attached with a Velcro like material and is removeable and adjustable for height.

• I had a windshield spoiler on my last scooter from Twisted Throttle and loved it. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/mra-x-creen-add-on-variable-windscreen-spoiler-blade-bolt-on
I had to drill 4 holes in the windshield but they have a clamp on version now also. Before I installed it I would get bugs on my helmet visor, after installing the spoiler it really helped to direct the wind over my helmet and I didn’t get the bugs on my helmet visor like I used to. I left it go with the scooter when I sold it. I have seen the Laminar Lip before but thought it looked really huge and didn’t like the looks of it. The spoiler I had was smaller but you could raise and lower it and change the angle on it, I think it looked much better and it worked very well. I may have to see about getting another one once I get my bigger windshield.

There is also this model but not sure if it would work as well as the one I had from Twisted Throttle: http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcycle/8110025.html

• I just received an email from Puig that their windshield is now available if anyone might be interested in it. I’ll paste their email here:

21. you’re really a just right webmaster. The site loading velocity is incredible.

It seems that you’re doing any distinctive trick. Furthermore,
The contents are masterwork. you’ve done a magnificent
activity in this subject!

• Roman:

Thank you for this site also and this topic.

As other people, I ran into problems removing the V piece. I think it would be helpful to update your post regarding this. Following other’s advice, I found the “Top down” approach is much easier and doable.
I took a few pictures for installation. Please let me know how to submit them to you.

• Here is the info provided by Jack:

1. Remove the 3 screws for the “V” piece. One at the bottom of the nose. The other two can be reached through the space just under the shield.
2. Carefully pop out the two top corners as shown in the first picture. Pry a little and not too much force.
3. Grab the top part of the V push downward, one at a time to pop the V piece out of the Clips.
4. Grab both of the top parts to free them and the nose part.
5. Follow the instruction provided by Honda. Pay attention to the positions of the washers. Go to the next step for the thick washer placements.
6. Place the four thick washers against the holes on the bike before putting the tall shield back.
7. The rest is easy.

22. I too am having a difficult time removing the V to replace the stock windshield with the tall one. after removing the 3 screws the v just will not move. Is there a trick? Do you pry from the bottom or top? nothing seems to move for me/ Thanks for any help.

• Hi Jim,
There are clips all along the sides not just the bottom part, so run your fingers along the sides all the way to the top (both sides at the same time), once you’ve loosen all of these clips, you can pull downwards and out from the bottom of the V. It takes a while, lots of TLC and plenty of patience 🙂
Cheers,
Gabe

23. Are you guys getting the taller windshields right away, or have you had them ordered for a while? I bought my forza a month ago, but the dealer told me the windshields were on backorder until the 4th of June. My last scooter had a taller windshield so I really miss it on this one, 2 months seems like a long time to have to wait for it. I know I’ll enjoy the rides out of town a lot more once I get it installed.

24. I finally received the windshield today. Roman, you said it came with 8 rubber washers. I didn’t have any rubber washers with mine, just the windshield.

• Disregard my last comment. I looked in the box again and found the washers. I’ll get it installed tomorrow or Saturday.

• I wonder if you ordered the same thing I did. I think the rubber washers are meant to reduce the vibrations. You might want to check with your supplier where you got it from.

• I got the windshield installed and it is a great improvement, makes for a much better ride. There is more helmet noise, and if I duck down an inch or two it goes away. I was looking at the Puig windshield before I got this, and it is a couple of inches taller than the Honda windshield so it would probably eliminate the helmet noise, but I think I would probably be looking right at the top of the windshield or just through it. I had a spoiler on my last scooter from Twisted Throttle and loved it, but the windshield on my last scooter seemed to be more sturdy than this one, this one seems to flex more at the top, it would probably be alright but not sure about it.The helmet noise isn’t that bad so can put up with it for now. It is much better now than it was without the taller windshield.

• I’ve found with the bigger windshield installed, I can wear my half helmet now and don’t have the noise I did with my other helmet. Don’t think I’ll need to add a spoller.

25. Thank you everyone for the directions. Replacing the windshield with the Honda Tall windshield worked quite well. I pulled the black part down as people recommended. I then worked my way up to the clips and gentle pop’d them out with a flat-head screw driver. After that it was easy. Less than an hour total and I was working slowly and carefully. What a difference the tall windshield makes, especially at high speeds (50+ mph). Thanks again

26. Roman, thanks for the instructions re the full windscreen. I did mine yesterday, took about 20 minutes and really changed the scooter. It “appears” that the bike is a bit faster, wind noise has been reduced and so far I haven’t seen any change in MPG. It’s been pretty windy out here, but I have not experienced any problems with handling. This is a great source for the Forza! Thanks.

27. I recently installed a Laminar Lip on the tall windshield of my Forza. Installed it so it adds about another 1″ to the height of the tall windshield. This allows me to still see over the windshield, not through it (I’m 5’8″, 30″ inseam). Could have gone another inch, inch and a half. I’ve put over 200 miles on it now and I’m very pleased with it. There’s less noise and buffeting. It’s especially pleasant between 40 -60mph when the wind is calm, or a slight tail wind. Haven’t tried it a any higher speeds. It’s also probably better with head winds, but it’s hard to make a direct comparison due to have such winds can vary. I also feel it improves the looks of the tall windshield…ads a bit of “character” to it. I gusess there’s no way to ad a photo to these posts, but here is a link to the Lamina Lip website, specifically the one for the Forza, which shows a photo of one mounted on a Forza. http://laminarlip.com/forza.php

• The Laminar Lip gets very good reviews on its website and I’m sure it does a very good job of directing the wind flow higher. But maybe I am alone here but I just do not like the looks of the Laminar Lip. I’ve never actually seen one on a bike, but from the online photos it looks huge to me. One advantage is that it is less expensive than other spoilers I have seen.
If you want to see something really horrendous, here is someone that installed the Givi Air Flow on their Forza:
http://www.hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2444
I would never install anything like that on my scooter.
I’m 5’10″ and the honda taller windshield works fine for me without adding a spoiler. But I wear a half helmet with a dropdown shield over my prescription glasses when riding out of town (don’t want to scratch my prescription lens).
But if I were going to get one I would spend the extra $30 and get one like this:
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/mra-x-creen-add-on-variable-windscreen-spoiler-blade-bolt-on-10700
There is a gif image on the following site that shows in more detail how it can be adjusted:

I had one like this on my last scooter, and like that it is adjustable and you don’t notice it that much on the windshield. I would get bugs splattered on my helmet shield without the spoiler, after I added the spoiler it directed the wind higher and I didn’t get the bugs on the shield anymore. I left the spoiler go with the scooter when I sold it, and the person that bought it from me just loves the spoiler on the windshield.
The seat was higher on my last scooter than it is on the Forza and the wind would hit me right in the face without the spoiler. But the combination of the lower seat on the Forza and the tall Honda windshield works just fine for me.

• I got a wind deflector installed on my Forza tall screen today and what a world of difference it made. It looks great and works great! It can be adjusted to suit your height (I am 5.11 and it is set on the lowest possible setting). It is typically sold as a BMW touring aftermarket accessory (BMW = Not Cheap!), the name is “Wunderlich Wind Deflector”. Easy to install and It can be ported to other bikes. In my opinion it provides a nicer look than the laminar lip, but then again “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” …. Also I did not notice any change on the riding experience, if anything I found myself travelling a bit faster…..

28. Hello,
i’m writing from Italy. I’m the administratorof italian forum about Honda Forza, also owner for 9 years of a Forza X 2005 and now of a NSS300.
Some italian users have noticed a problem: the damage of fuel pump: Starting the scooter e metallic noise is heard and engine start is impossible. Honda Italia for now doesn’t admit the problem or recalls all scooter, but seems to replace in warranty the pump with a new one but different.
Have u information on the subject ?
Thanks and best regards

Less than 100 miles on my 2014 Forza.
1.5 Qts of 10W-40 HP4M goes in this w/e.
Gear oil will be changed next w/e.
Then will settle into Honda’s schedule – though, in all honesty , I will be changing the oils at 1K or 1.5K for the duration of my ownership. . There is only 1.5 qts in there – keeping fresh oil and the best oil in my Honda – is cheap insurance.
Tom

• I agree with fresh oil being important in a scooter engine. The small engine works very hard( although designed to do that) so regular oil change must be of benefit and certainly will do no harm and easy to do. Changing every 1K / 1.5K may however be a bit OTT…will you change the filter as well?…With my previous bike ( a Honda SWing 125cc,,european bike) oil was changed every 2.5K ( or every 12 months if mileage low) and that seemed to keep the engine happy…..but I agree with the principle of freshening the engine oil. which I intend doing on my new Forza every 6/9 months…doing about 4K per annum.

30. For anyone out there looking for a cruise control, I have found a good one, designed and tested for the Honda Forza. It is called the BrakeAway Motorcycle Cruise Control (Part No. 7PC02). I do a lot of highway commuting during the week and I’ve been looking for this creature comfort for a while. I’ve seen a few universal throttle locks at the local motorcycle stores in Sydney, but I’ve always been concerned that in an emergency situation, I would not be able to be quick enough to disengaged the Cruise Control manually. This product has excellent reviews and it was designed with a great safety feature, that allows disengagement of the throttle via the use of the front brake leaver, as well as the standard thumb push….. Can’t wait to get it and install it…. here is a short youtube video link that shows how it works https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pf51t1ssl0

31. I ordered a windshield with the same part number. The box included some complex pieces of hardware that don’t seem to fit no matter what I do. Also, the holes in the tall screen do not line up with the screw holes on the bike; in fact, it’s not even close. Did you receive the hardware with you unit?
Thanks

• I took the screen back to the dealer. They looked up the installation instructions and the screen I was sold is clearly the wrong one. The info sheet indicates no hardware (the pieces I received are about 20 cm long and there is a large bag of allen head screws and washers) and easy installation of the screen with mounting holes matching those of the original fly screen. The last three digits of the part number are different as well. They are currently dealing with Honda to find a solution.

• There are a few pictures on this Web Site for the tall Honda windscreen. Please compare these with yours to see if it looks the same. There may be a packing mistake from Honda if the holes don’t line up. Also the only hardware that comes with it are some rubber washers and nothing else. I’d say you probably got a windscreen for a different bike!

32. Thanks Roman for the easy to understand info on removing the factory windshield. I picked up the taller Honda shield , and Because of you I did the work myself saving some $. My only problem area was that the new shield came with 8 washers, 4 thick washers and 4 thinner ones. Because there were no instructions , I wasn’t sure which ones to put on the inside of the windshield when mounting it back. I went with the thicker ones on the inside and thinner on the outside of the shield. Seems to fit okay, but have yet to try on the road. A bit to cold here right now.
Do you know if this is the correct way the washers get installed??

Also added bike master heated hand grips that I put on any scooter I get. A must have in colder climates.

• Thanks Joe. I didn’t know which side to put them on either and just guessed. Seems to be OK because there aren’t any issues. Do you have a link to the heated grips? I might be interested in them.

• Roman, Here is a link to the BikeMaster web page with the heated grips. They go for about $60, But I got mine on Amazon.com for $47.99 with the shipping.

This is my Third set of these and I love them. Just note, you will have to file down all the high spots on the throttle in order to fit the new grip. Not a big deal, just takes time. I mounted the control in between the handlebar clamps.
Good luck!

33. Hi Roman,

Thanks for sharing your experiences on the Forza 300. Thanks to this thread, I had the confidence to install the tall windshield on my own brand new Forza (I have owned it for 2 days now!) Saved me £35 to have the dealer do it, plus afforded me a brief glimpse underneath the front fairing to see if there is any space to install a loud 2-tone air horn, which will be my next project. (or I might just defer to the dealer to do that – it does look fairly packed under there).

There isn’t a great deal of user-supplied info on the Forza on the internet, yet. I guess it’s still quite a new machine. Like you, I started on a small twist and go scooter (125cc Aprilia Habana Custom) in 2005 moved on up through the stages of motorbikes, topping out at running a BMW R1150 RT for 4 years for long distance commuting and a couple of European tours (I’m based in the UK). Now back to a twist and go Forza and loving it.

Brilliant to have your experience here on this site (with pictures). My goodness, that initial Y-shaped piece of the front fairing really DIDN’T want to come off! I did break a little bit of a protruding lug off the back of it, prizing it off, but no major damage done – it was tiny. I found it rather fiddly offering up the new screen to the holes, with the washers in place on the screws. My solution was to put a little axle grease on the fat washers and stick in the place on the scooter, then offer up the screen without the screws in it, and put them in one at a time, with the screen in position and the holes lined up.

• Congratulations on your new Forza. Let us know if you install that air horn. I have been wondering about what other types of modifications people have been doing. That sounds interesting.

• latest on that air-horn is that I left it to the dealer while the scooter was in for it’s first 600 mile service. Air horn installation was a non starter based on the lack of available mounting positions underneath the front fairing given the weight of the air-horn that I had bought. It’s a Stebel Nautilus Compact, which although compact for an air-horn is still big and weighty for a normal motorbike/scooter horn. I’m now looking to see if I can get a HID upgrade for the headlights because even with two headlights, they’re not quite bright enough for misty/foggy unlit country roads around the UK. So far I’ve discovered that there aren’t a great deal of HID upgrade options for HS1 bulb fit.

• Hi mrfube,
I have the Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn on my Forza, and i was able to install it under the front fairing by making a custom bracket out of a aluminum and attaching it to the crossbar that holds some relays. yes, it is a very tight fit, but can be done. I did this at the same time i installed the taller windscreen and everything was exposed. I will try to post pictures of it installed. Also installed heated hand grips which are great.
Joe

• Hi Joe,

Oh yes. If you could post some pics of your bracket and how you’ve mounted it, that would be brilliant. The caveat at the dealers was always “if it looks like it’s going to be some bother and incur some labour charges, then don’t bother”. It was an opportunistic gambit on my part while they were tinkering with the scooter, anyway. If I can see what it is you made, and can get the dimensions, I can probably get a local engineering shop to fabricate something similar for me for a £20 or so. (Here’s hoping!). Having a looksee at what you did might also influence my decision to install a HID upgrade to the lights.. whether or not there’s anywhere to put the ballasts. Cheers, mate!

34. Always liked the dark wind screens that the rest of the world rec’d with their Forza. Found a cheap take-off OEM screen on eBay so I could try this modification.
I like the results.!

• Tom T. …looks really cool!!
Because I am in Scotland I fitted the higher PUIG dark screen for protection which I find great…but yours looks great…suits the looks/lines of the scooter better…

35. Looks like most of you guys don’t like the short sport windshield. This is one thing that I like about the Forza. I currently ride a 2006 Burgman 400 S and it has a similar short windshield. I find it is great for city use especially in the summer. However the Honda tall windshield looks nice too but for around town I prefer the extra flow of air.

• I’m with you on that one. The overall aesthetic of the short dark OEM screen that we get in the UK was one of the things that first turned my head, never previously having been drawn in by any maxi-scooters. It’s more out of necessity that I have installed the taller Honda screen, which is far less attractive, but the best of a bad lot, in my opinion. I wonder if, nearly having snapped some plastic tabs off during the installation of the tall screen, I’ll be brave enough to chance it again to swap it back to the short dark screen when summer returns? I’ve found that motorway/highway riding isn’t so much fun with the short screen. On a naked motorbike, I’ve always been able to lean into the wind.. in fact it takes the pressure off your wrists in a good way, but in a recumbent riding position like the Forza, the wind pushes me back so I’m hanging on with my arms, even despite the back supporting saddle.

36. HELLO, I AM A NEW HONDA FORZA RIDER AND I LOVE IT. HAVE BEEN RIDING FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND IT HAS BEEN EASY TO NAVIGATE AND TRAVEL. I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO PURCHASE A TALL WINDSCREEN SOON. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS SITE UP.

37. I had my taller honda screen dealer fitted before collection. I decided I like the look of the stock screen and decided to re fit it. I didn’t read the instructions correctly and have managed to crack the y piece on one side. I didn’t snap it fully luckily and managed to refit it, The replacement cost is rediculus and I will have to live with it.

• Ouch. I was afraid I was going to break it when I tried to do it. I went to the dealer and they showed me what to do since they had the repair manual. I decided to take photos and post them here when I did it.

• Kevin, should you ever want another stock screen for the Forza let me know. I can sell you mine. Won’t be nearly as much as new from Honda! Tom

38. I have the stock screen (dark tint in the UK) and the clear Honda screen. Just trialing the stock screen as I think it looks better. Just got a quote for the y piece. £150 😂 Quote from Thailand $25 + $45 airmail shipping USA. Now even if I pay import duty that’s a ton of money saved over the price here, but shipping takes about 2 weeks.

I failed to read your instructions and tried to remove it BEFORE removing the two screws under the screen. Expensive lesson.

39. Just got done installing Givi replacement screens on my Forza 300 ABS (the tall screen) and my wife’s PCX 150 (the mid-height screen). Several issues – on the Forza, it was very hard to remove the red plastic piece, I finally got it but it was very tight and snapped back, there is blood on my fingers, and then ONE of the four stupid screws that holds the stock screen on would simply not release, it took massive leverage with locking pliers on the Allen wrench, and it shuddered when it finally released. I could just see that sucker getting rounded inside and never coming out. On the PCX150, all went smoothly until putting the red plastic piece back on. One of the clips simply will not seat or stay seated. I don’t think it is damages, so I really don’t know what is going on. Anyway, your explanation was quite helpful, especially the picture of where the clips are located on the red plastic piece on the Forza.

40. Hi, I need to set the alarm, I have to connect the wires to the ignition key, how do I remove the black plastic?
thanks

41. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I changed mine to the tall Honda screen in the Honda dealer’s parking lot. I also have the 55 later Givi case. I only put really light stuff in it (Yeah that is bs but it is my working theory) It is 0 degrees C here today. I might have to wait 3 months before it is warm enough to ride again (Hope, BC, Canada) Thanks again for the good info.

42. Hi, the height of the Honda tall windshield is 24″, can anyone tell me if the measurement is from the bottom point to the top edge? I’m 5’2″ and I want to make sure I can see over it. Many thanks.

43. Just a quick note to say thanks for posting this! It enabled me to man up , grab a phillips screwdriver and work my way through it. You are my internet Hero today.
