What I Paid for my 2014 Honda Forza 300

Several people have asked whether the dealer will negotiate on a Forza.  I was able to negotiate on all of the motorcycles and scooters I ever bought.  The key is to have the will power to wait a few days and to not look too enthusiastic about buying it.  A lot of people go into the dealer and walk out with the bike the same day because they just want to have it right then.  They can’t wait to ride it and their eagerness costs them extra money.

I went into the dealer four or five times looking at the Forza before I actually made an offer.  I made it seem like I was truly interested in a Suzuki Burgman 400 and a Vespa 300.  I eventually came back and told them I was interested in buying.  I asked how much.  The salesman went back to his office to work out some numbers.

I don’t remember exactly what he started at, but it might have been something like $7,200, which included all kinds of charges like freight, prep/setup, doc fees, taxes, etc.  I told them that was way more than I was willing to pay.  He asked what I was willing to pay to make a deal at that moment.  I told him the only way I was comfortable making a deal at the moment would be $5,599, out the door.  He came back with a counter offer at $6,800.  I told him that was still too much, but that I would think about it.

I was really debating in my mind whether I really wanted to spend that much money on a scooter, so I went back home and for several days just thought about it.  Eventually I got a phone call from the dealer and they asked if I was still interested.  Instead of doing the negotiating on the phone, I went over to the dealer to discuss it in person.  I said that my wife really wanted me to get a Vespa, but that I would be the one riding it and I really wanted the Forza.  I said that if they would take $6,000 as an out the door price, I would buy it on the spot.  They countered one more time at around $6,150.  I said I would do that if they threw in the optional taller windscreen.  They said they couldn’t do that, but could get me a discount on it.

The bottom line is that I paid an out the door price of $6,214.27, which was broken down as follows:

Purchased September, 2013

2014 Honda Forza (non ABS)  ………. $4,700.99
Setup & Freight ……………………………      599.00
Documentation Fee …………………….       164.30
ERT Fee ……………………………………         25.00
Taller Windscreen …………………… …       118.82
Sales Tax …………………………………..       406.58
County Use Tax ………………………….           7.50
County Tax ……………………………….          56.08
Registration ………………………………        136.00

Total Out the Door Price ……………..   $6,214.27
US Dollars

I was going to pay cash, but when they said I could charge the entire purchase on my credit card, I did that.  My Visa card gets me 1% cash back (a savings of $62).  So my real out the door price was $6,152.  I did not get an extended warranty or any kind of maintenance plan.   I hope this will help those who are considering a new Forza and are wondering what the cost will be.

    • When I went in, I just asked for the “out the door” price. They told me $6300 which included 8% sales tax. I told them I had been quoted $6000 previously. They replied that Honda was offering a previous deal. I casually asked if they had sold any there. They hadn’t yet. He got on the phone to the owner and 10 minutes later I had my deal. They are ready to deal at this time of the year.

  1. Hi, I enjoy all the info in this link. I’m trading in my 2010 150shi for a Forza ABS. The weather here is bad right now but I put $500. Down subject to a satisfactory test ride as soon s the weather breaks. The out the door price with the taller windshield and trunk rack (no trunk) is $4212. Plus my 150. Deals can be made, I was also debating between the burgeman 400 and the Forza.

      • Hi, I have a question about the shocks on the forza. I’m 5 7 and 140lb. Most of the roads I will be on are in good shape and I don’t plan on riding 2 up. Any opinions if I should plan on replacing the shocks. I know riding after I pick it up will tell the story but I like the info I get from this blog.
        Thanks, Tom St Louis

      • Hi Tom. I am 6’1″ and 215. I don’t have any issues at all with the shocks that came with the Forza. Living in suburban Chicago with the temperature changes we have, the roads aren’t the greatest, but I have no complaints about the ride on the Forza. I would recommend riding it for a while to see what you think first.

  2. I’m in negotiations with my Honda dealer for a Forza with ABS and a tall windshield.
My price out the door so far is $7132.00. He also has a Forza without ABS for $6243. OTD.
The MSRP between ABS and non ABS is approximately $600.00, So I think I have about $300.00 to work with.

    • Good luck David. Hope it’s warmer by you and you can start riding. It was a high of – 4 here in Chicago today. With all the snow we’ve had, I haven’t been riding for a month. Hope you get the price you’re looking for.

      • Roman, Its been 75 degrees everyday for the past to weeks. Can’t wait to start riding. Lots of Scooter Groups out here in SoCal. Will keep posting progress on Forza. Hope your weather improves soon!

    • Hello David,

I am wondering how much you were able to negotiate with the dealer in your area for the Forza ABS ( If that is the one you ended up choosing )

I am planing to get mine this month and i got a quote for 7100 CAD OTD.

Let me know what kind of deal your were able to get with them on the Forza,

THank you for the information everybody,

      Enjoy the ride!

      • I’m dragging me feet a little on the purchase. I’ve got two other prices from dealers out of my area. (1) for 6980. and (2) for 6971. Tall windshield and ABS. The second price was through Costco affiliated Honda dealer in Hollywood for 6971, but that was with 9% sales tax. So if your sales tax is lower, in theory the price would be lower. The reason I’m sticking with my dealer is that I can walk to work when I leave it for service and I rather buy local. Hope that helps, try Costco’s vehicle plan for a participating Honda dealer.

      • Hello David,

sorry for the late reply, i have been very busy with work. I finally had time to go deal with honda again, i am planing on buying the Forza ABS next week for 7100 OTD ( Canadian dollar ) around 6445 USD. Without the Windshield.

The taxes in my province are 13% but the fees are less than Roman’s Forza. Maybe it’s just Canadian standards :

        Freight and PDI 300 CAD
        Taxes : 820 CAD
        Documentation Fee 99 CAD

I will keep you guys updated on what i think of the bike once i buy,

Enjoy the season and ride safe,

      • Hello Roger,
Not sure if you saw my last posting. I paid $7000.00 out the door with the tall windshield installed and ABS. Enjoying my scooter very much. Also took the Motorcycle Safety training class that is recognized by the state of California.
Learned a lot on how to be as safe as possible while riding a motorcycle.

  3. Hi, I just traded in my 2010 150shi fot the Forza ABS with the dealer installed windshield and trunk rack. I paid 4217 and the 150. I tried to sell the 150 on Craig’s list here in St Louis but the only offers was if I would finance or low ball offers. I’m happy with my deal and can’t wait for the weather to clear. I took it for a test ride when it was 39 out with a 20/25 mile wind gust. I told the dealer I wouldn’t buy without a test ride so they (wanting to close in Jan) offered to suit me up nice and warm for the test ride. Even with all the extra cloths the ride went well and the wind was not a problem.

  4. I am moving to Florida and just sold both my PCX 150 for $3500 ! and my 09 650 Burgy for $6000 …now looking at a 300 in Punta Gorda and this dialog has been very very productive …thanks

  5. What type of gas mileage are you getting on the Forza? And do you drive mostly at city speeds or highway speeds?

    • Hi Randy. I am getting around 60 mpg, but that is because most of my driving is at city speeds. When I drive consistently at higher speeds for longer distances I get closer to 70 mpg. My Forza is still getting broken in, so I am sure the mileage will improve as I ride it more. I have been in hibernation with this terrible Chicago weather we have had this year.

      • That is the one thing I’m concerned about. I need a little more power and like the Forza a lot but my current 150 Blur gets about 85 miles to the gallon on nearly all city driving. With the prices of gas continuing to rise that is one of the decisions I’ll have to make. Thanks for the information.

      • With only 60-65 mpg a gallon ( I had a 13 PCX 150 that got 85-90 mpg ) ? …..the new 2013 650 Burgman at 58-60mpg and oh so comfortable ride and protection is looking better and better……. even if gas prices soar…and even if it is very expensive ..( I’d trade my 09 ( I had an 03 650 before ) in on a new or used 2013 650 )…thanks for this thread it has been Very Very helpful

    • If you don’t have a lead wrist, you can achieve some impressive mileage, this is all in town, with a 7 mile trip to work and back 5 times a week. No kidding 86 mpg.

  6. Hi I read your article which is very interesting as I really love this scooter to be saled in Indonesia.
FYI, the for the motorcycle. Above 250cc is categorised to be luxurious type here and the tax is about 125% from the off the road price. VAT is 10%.. So lucky for you to have it at around USD 6 to 7k. I think when it is sold in Indonesia, it will be about USD 9000 to 12000 for on the street price.
    Hmmm very expensive.
FYI too the price of PCX150 is about USD 370 now.

  7. Just bought my forza. Went to the honda dealer to buy 4 screws and ended up buying a new
scooter. Just asked what the out the door price would be, and he said $5800. $5472 for the scooter, $342 tax, and $136 license and title. He said they don’t charge all the extra fees that other dealers do. They are prepping it now and I will be picking it up this afternoon. I also ordered the taller windshield ($140) but he said they are on backorder and won’t be able to get it until around the 4th of June.

  8. I just bought a used Forza. That’s right used 243 miles. The lady that traded it in wanted a ctx700. It is a ABS model with a taller windscreen, 10 months left on the warranty. I got it for 4725 out the door but we pay our taxes at the tag agency.

  9. Finally got my Honda Forza with ABS and the tall windshield installed. Out the door price was exactly $7,000.00. Came in with an offer of 6,900.00 as all the other dealers here in California were at 6,950.00. The dealer is less than a mile away and I would of burned up $50.00 in fuel going back and forth to the next closest dealer.
I really like this scooter, lots of power, looks great, and many special features. The fuel consumption gauge was reading 62 – 64 mpg, then with 20 miles on the odometer, it was getting 71.4 mpg.
The ride is very solid, although I’m planning to take some load off the rear shocks and hopefully lower the rear about 1/2 inch giving me more stability at stops. Any comments or suggestions on adjusting the shocks would be greatly appreciated.
One other little matter is the drive belt clutch. When it engages and disengages it seems a little stiff. Hopefully as it breaks in, it will smooth out.

    • A lot of people don’t like the rear shocks. Some are getting some yss shocks, but I don’t know where you would order them in the USA and I think they are quite expensive. I think the stock shocks will have to work for me. I did take mine to the Honda dealer and had them adjust them one notch softer and it seems to ride a little smoother over the bumpy roads here.
I saw these malossi shocks which I don’t think are quite as expensive as the yss:
      http://scooterpartsco.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1323
But not sure how much of an improvement they would make and I don’t want to be the first one to try them. Not finding a lot of helpful information online yet, hopefully as time passes there will be more options available.

      • Thank you for the information on the shocks. Going to lower mine to see how it rides.

  10. Hi. I’m a short lady (5′ 2″) and only weigh 130 pounds. I did go in to a motorcycle shop to get permission to sit on a Honda Forza, and I was still just barely on my tippy-toes. Any chance of perhaps re-upholstering the seat to have me sit a little lower on the bike? What are your opinions? I’m a dreamer, and if it’s not possible for me to safely ride a Forza on the highway (I want to take road trips) I’d rather know now than later and dream about another bike…**sigh** oh how I’d kept my Yamaha Vino… I miss riding…

    • I’m not aware of any aftermarket seats, but I’ll start checking around. Have you considered wearing boots with higher heels? I think Harley makes some. Maybe with the heels you could get a little more reach. You sound like a lot of fun. I can’t get my wife to ride the Forza, except as a passenger. Good luck. I hope you find a solution.

    • Hello Lisa,
My feet are within a 1/4 inch of being completely flat when I’m sitting all the way back in the seat. I’m considering two solutions, one get new boots with a higher sole and heel. Two is to adjust the rear shocks to the lowest position. I’m definitely going to lower the shocks and will post a note on the seat height after I make the adjustment. Hopefully it will be soon. As for the Forza in general, I really like this scooter.

  11. If hold your interest in Italy the street price (with tax,and everything, in Italy we say “Keys in hand”) is 5280 euro with higher windshield. It means 7200 USD. I think you can be happy for your prizes…

  12. $5642.00 on the road in Ohio.
I always get at least 2 dealers bidding for my purchase of a car …and had a Piaggio dealer discounting his lovely new BV350 to $5500.00. Took this info to the Honda dealer….and he discounted his price for the 2014 Forza. That was close enough for me! The BV350 was gorgeous & sexy – but I’m in the middle of Ohio, if that dealer goes under – I do not want to try finding service/parts for an Italian scooter out here in the boonies. Honda dealers are all around me. I sleep much better knowing there is a Honda out there in the garage! If I lived in SoCal I’d probably have that sexy Italian lady in the garage. (who else but the Italians would make a scoot with a burgundy seat and matt silver & gloss black paint – Lovely!)

    • I agree with you Tom. Having Honda dealers all around gives me peace of mind in case I’m on the road and something goes wrong. I drive a Honda CRV as well and the Honda brand is very reliable.

  13. Seems y’all paid way too much for a new Forza. I did a search online and found many new Forza’s for $3999 on up. I contacted Don and Roy’s Motorsports in WI (if I remember correctly). They added shipping and assembly for a final price of $4568. Since I live in NM, I had to have it shipped which cost me $500. The dealer here in town wanted over $6000. Even with the shipping, I saved $1000.

    • I’m wondering what model year your new Forza is. As far as I can tell, maybe someone here knows more than me, but I have seen no changes in the Forza since it was introduced in 2014? I wonder if the low price new Forza’s are an older model year, or a year end closeout, that the dealers haven’t been able to sell for some reason? Not to say there is anything wrong with that, but my guess is, with gas prices dropping so much, I would think there may now be a surplus of gas saving scooters on the market. I am waiting on replacing the roof of my house, as I am expecting material costs to drop, as roofing, which contains a petroleum product, will drop in price soon. A lot of people here bought their Forza when gas prices were high, and had to pay near retail.

  14. I purchased my Honda Forza 3 months old for $3737. Still under warranty. It came with the Tallest GIVI windshield and a GIVI Touring Back Case good for 2 full face helmets. The price the first owner paid was $5175. With the extras. Smiles from Thailand

  15. Hi Gary, i am UK based but have a 2013 Forza 300. now done 16K Miles (thats 25k Kilometers) it has never missed a beat.
regular oil changes (standard services) and everything has run fine. The only thing i would check that has been done as a service is a belt change (not expensive) but that is due at 10K as you are on 8.5K i would get it done in advance, mine went in transit, and it wasnt so easy to replace (messy) – easier if done beforehand. Mine needs head bearings checked – you can do that yourself – put bike on centre stand, get someone to sit on rear of seat so front wheel in air – check by turning left and right holding the wheel, feel for any slight notch or tight spot – but at that mileage would think its fine. Check any suspension play/wheel play – again by hand… Hope that helps – they are great bikes. Jim

  16. I got my 2014 for 5700, OTD, in 2014. They also offered a CB500X for the same price, which was tempting, but I wanted the automatic. After 4 years I still like the automatic.
